Instagram CEO to Testify Before Congress
As lawmakers seek answers on child safety, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri faces his first testimony before Congress.
The New York Times reported that Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri is expected to appear before Congress for the first time to answer questions about child safety on the platform.
Mosseri will testify before a Senate subcommittee chaired by Senator Richard Blumenthal. Mosseri is scheduled to testify during the week beginning December 6, the newspaper added.
In a video posted to his Instagram account, Mosseri confirmed that he will testify before Congress.
There's an important discussion happening right now about keeping young people safe online. I've been thinking a lot about how Instagram shows up, and I'm looking forward to sharing more of the work we're doing in the weeks ahead 🙏🏼 pic.twitter.com/dLQNDh6G34

It is worth noting that Instagram and Meta are under increased scrutiny following the disclosure of internal company research by whistleblower Frances Haugen revealing the effects of Instagram on teen mental health.
One of the research's conclusions, according to an internal presentation from 2019, was that "we exacerbate body image issues for one in every three teen girls."
