Systems of 9 Global Organizations Breached–Security Firm
Palo Alto Networks, a global cybersecurity firm, unmasked how hackers exploited a vulnerability in software that corporations use to manage their network passwords.
Unidentified hackers are suspected of infiltrating organizations in the technology, defense, healthcare, energy, and education sectors in the US and various other countries, security firm Palo Alto Networks reported.
In a statement, the cyber security company said: "Subsequently, exploitation attempts began on Sept. 22 and likely continued into early October. During that window, the actor successfully compromised at least nine global entities across the technology, defense, healthcare, energy, and education industries."
The hackers were able to obtain usernames and passwords that would grant them access to sensitive information.
Officials from the National Security Agency and the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency are monitoring the hackers' activities but have refused to comment on their identities, according to CNN.
