'I don't know where my home is': Displaced Palestinian returning to Gaza City
Displaced Palestinians walked through the wreckage of Gaza City on Friday, October 10, looking for any traces of what was once their homes as Israeli occupation forces withdrew from parts of the ravaged city. Amid the smell of dust and ruin, one woman broke down, saying, "I came since the morning, when they said there was a withdrawal, to find my home… I swear I don’t know where the crossroads are or where my home is." Another woman, overcome with grief, said she wept for her siblings who were killed, "How can I come back and not find them waiting for me?" For many forcibly displaced Palestinians, the return was not to their neighborhoods, but to vast stretches of rubble where entire streets, homes, and memories had been effaced by "Israel’s" relentless war on Gaza.
