'Israel's' war machine reeling under reserve forces stretched thin
Amid the prolonged Israeli war on Gaza, the Israeli military is facing a deepening crisis with its reserve units. Both military analysts and reservists warn of increasing attrition, as personal and professional lives remain indefinitely disrupted. Reports from the Financial Times indicate that attendance in some reserve units has dropped below 50%, with many soldiers skipping call-ups due to exhaustion and frustration. The refusal to draft ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) men, despite a Supreme Court ruling, has further fueled resentment, with 80% of reservists reporting declining motivation to serve. Netanyahu’s government is trapped by political cowardice; too dependent on ultra-Orthodox allies to enforce the draft and too blinded by self-preservation to confront the military collapse. Instead of real solutions, it throws money at a failing system, all while its war machine crumbles from within.
