Countries' fossil fuels fueling Israeli genocide in Gaza

Speaking at the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Senior Global Policy Strategist at Oil Change International, Shady Khalil, highlighted the role of fossil fuels in "enabling the genocide in Gaza, and leading and bombing and invading a war in Lebanon." Describing the act of prioritizing profit over "Palestinian [and] Lebanese lives," a "profound moral collapse," Khalil said, "These countries are enabling colonial violence under the disguise of economic interests." He added, "We say it loud and clear here at COP29, climate justice cannot exist without dismantling the systems of colonialism, occupation that drive both environmental destruction, and human suffering." Meanwhile, activists took a similar stance, demanding the defunding of genocide in Gaza.
