Declining reservist turnout highlights strain in Israeli military
Reservist turnout in "Israel" has fallen to 60–70% of those summoned, a steep decline from the initial 20–30% excess in October 2023. Multiple deployments, some reservists have served six or more tours totaling over 275 days, have strained family life, careers, and education, while repeated Gaza operations have hit confidence in political and military leadership. Perceptions of unfairness amid continued exemptions for ultra‑orthodox reservists have further undermined morale and cohesion, raising serious concerns about the military’s ability to sustain expanded operations without a reliable pool of reservists.
