Nael al-Barghouthi freed in 7th batch of Gaza's prisoner-exchange deal
Nael al-Barghouthi, a symbol of resistance and resilience in Palestine, has been released late Wednesday as part of the seventh prisoner-captive exchange deal between Hamas and the Israeli occupation. However, he was directly deported outside of Palestine to Egypt. Al-Barghouthi, the world's longest-serving political prisoner, was first arrested by "Israel" in 1978 and was sentenced to life imprisonment. He was released in the Wafa al-Ahrar deal in 2011. He lived his life as a free man for only 32 months, as in June 2014, al-Barghouthi was re-arrested and sentenced to 30 months in prison. Two months after his sentence ended, the Israeli occupation restored his previous life sentence plus 18 years under the pretext of a "secret file".
