At the UN Human Rights Council, Navi Pillay, the Chair of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, asserted that “Israeli authorities are responsible for war crimes” and “crimes against humanity” in Gaza. While "Israel" and its Western allies continue to disseminate false and debunked narratives on October 7, Pillay affirmed that Israeli occupation forces intentionally targeted Palestinian women, men, and boys to sexual violence. Pillay also noted being denied access to Gaza and occupied Palestine, stressing, "I feel really bolstered by the fact that the International Court of Justice in the South Africa application has that as one of the key orders is to allow access to the UN's investigation team because everyone realizes you have to have reliable information for courts to act upon it.”
