Netanyahu’s efforts to mend relations with Trump after assassination attempt

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is making headway in repairing his fractured relationship with former US President Donald Trump after Trump’s assassination attempt on July 13. The rift began when Netanyahu congratulated Biden on his 2020 presidential victory, leading Trump to accuse Netanyahu of disloyalty. Netanyahu’s allies have since been diligently working to repair ties, with multiple meetings and praise for Trump. Amid ongoing regional tensions and the Israeli war on Gaza, Netanyahu can’t afford strained relations with Trump, especially if the former US President wins another term. Despite public support for “Israel,” Trump remains critical of Netanyahu, especially in regard to “Israel’s” war on Gaza. Speaking of which, during their recent meeting at Trump’s Palm Beach resort, Trump emphasized the necessity of the immediate return of captives and his commitment to peace in the Middle East.
