Palestine's UN envoy breaks down in tears at UNSC
Palestine's UN representative, Riyad Mansour, grew emotional as he recounted the final words of Dr. Mahmoud Abu Nujaila, a physician with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), who was killed in an Israeli missile strike on Gaza's Al-Awda Hospital in 2023. Speaking to the UN Security Council on Friday, Mansour shared that Nujaila had written a poignant message on a hospital whiteboard used for surgical planning: "Whoever stays until the end will tell the story. We did what we could. Remember us." Addressing the Security Council, Mansour called for urgent action to halt the ongoing genocide in Gaza, "It is our collective responsibility to end this hell, to stop this genocide." Mansour implored the council members to act decisively, "You have a duty to save lives. Palestinian doctors and medical staff upheld that duty at great personal risk. Do not abandon them. End Israeli impunity. End the genocide. Stop this aggression immediately and unconditionally."
