Prospects of Gaza ceasefire amid US policy's alignment with 'Israel's' expansionist agenda

In an interview for Al Mayadeen, Political Science and International Affairs Professor William Lawrence highlighted the challenges facing a Gaza ceasefire deal, pointing to the strong influence of pro-settler, expansionist figures within US administrations, particularly under Trump, which bolsters "Israel's" territorial ambitions in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Syria. Lawrence warned that this "means any peace is going to be on Israel's terms and at the detriment of the Palestinian cause." While a second ceasefire seems closer than before, he noted that "the final disposition of Israeli troops is probably the main sticking point," as "Israel" seeks to maintain "positionality".
