Ramadan in Gaza: 2023 vs 2024
"Israel’s" genocidal war on Gaza has shattered the sanctity of the holy month, leaving Palestinians only with memories. Ramadan has commenced, marking a period where Muslims worldwide fast, gather with loved ones, and devote themselves to prayer. Yet, for Gaza's Muslims, this sacred time is marred by grief and sorrow. This Ramadan, Palestinians in Gaza cannot observe their religious practices in peace. Gone are the lively streets adorned with decorations, and the gatherings for Iftar and Suhoor, as families are torn apart or obliterated entirely. Mosques, once echoing with prayers and the recitation of the Quran, now lie in ruins. The vibrant lights and chants have been replaced by the thunderous blasts of Israeli bombs. Children's laughter has been drowned by the cries of those trapped beneath the rubble. Streets, once bustling, are now strewn with rubble. Fasting continues past Iftar time due to the scarcity of food and water.
