Students replace McGill's buildings' names with Palestinian villages' names
The bold act initiated by the students in Canada is not only an act of solidarity with the people of Gaza but also challenges the Zionist movement and the existence of the Israeli apartheid regime altogether. The Zionist movement, the cornerstone of the establishment of the Israeli occupation regime and the ethnic cleansing of Palestine, not only uprooted tens of thousands of Palestinians during the Nakba and onwards but also greenlit renaming Palestinian cities, towns, and roads into Hebrew versions. Israeli governments have literally wiped off hundreds of Palestinian towns and cities over the course of 76 years physically and off maps in an attempt to systematically suppress the Palestinian identity. Yet, the resilience of the Palestinian people persists as they continue to assert their right to exist, to reclaim their land, and to resist the Israeli occupation and oppression.
