Tom Fletcher: 'The Gaza Famine is the world’s famine'
At a press conference, UN Humanitarian Chief Tom Fletcher declared that Gaza is facing nothing less than “a famine, the Gaza Famine.” He said the IPC report must be read “in sorrow and in anger, not as words and numbers but as lives" killed by "a famine that we could have been prevented if we had been allowed." Fletcher stressed that food is deliberately blocked at Gaza’s borders through systematic Israeli obstruction, creating a famine "within a few hundred meters of food, in a fertile land." He condemned the crisis as a man-made tragedy, “a famine caused by cruelty, justified by revenge, enabled by indifference, and sustained by complicity.” Calling it “the world’s famine,” Fletcher demanded urgent action, urging Prime Minister Netanyahu to agree to a ceasefire and open all crossings immediately to allow food and supplies in at the massive scale needed.
