Unit 8200, Microsoft Azure & 'Israel's' war on Gaza: The cloud war exposed
Microsoft’s Azure cloud is now at the center of yet another investigation after leaked documents revealed that "Israel’s" Unit 8200 stored millions of intercepted Palestinian phone calls on its Azure cloud for mass surveillance and target identification purposes from both Gaza and the occupied West Bank. In response, Microsoft has opened an “urgent” external inquiry, overseen by the US law firm Covington & Burling, marking the company’s second investigation in August into how its technology has been exploited by Israeli occupation forces. The company stated that “using Azure for the storage of data files of phone calls obtained through broad or mass surveillance of civilians in Gaza and the West Bank” would be a breach of its terms of service.
