University of California TA's strike for Gaza, refuse grade submission
As pro-Palestine protests continue on university campuses, demanding divestment from "Israel," the University of California (UC) faces mounting pressure due to the latest strike by its academic staff. The strike was initiated in response to the university's handling of pro-Palestine demonstrations, citing violations of students' rights to peaceful protest. With nearly 80% of academic workers from UC's 10 campuses statewide supporting the action, the strike was also prompted by police interventions at Palestine solidarity encampments at UCLA, UC San Diego, and UC Irvine, which led to the arrests of numerous students. According to Reuters, the workers' union is calling on the university to grant amnesty to all academic employees facing disciplinary action as a result of the protests and to uphold "the right to free speech and political expression on campus."
