Trump’s claim that Gaza is “no longer fit for human life” is being used to justify a plan for the forced displacement of Palestinians. However, experts have challenged this narrative. Despite massive destruction from Israeli bombings, Palestinians remain determined to rebuild their homes, defying claims of an uninhabitable Gaza. International law also prohibits forced transfers and historical precedents like post-WWII Tokyo show that rebuilding can happen without displacing populations. With severe restrictions on aid and reconstruction in Gaza, the real question arises: Who is truly making Gaza unlivable?
