Speaking at the Canadian House of Commons during question period, Member of Parliament Heather McPherson was criticized for wearing a watermelon pin in solidarity with Palestinians by House Speaker Greg Fergus. Fergus said, "I just want to encourage all members to remind member speakers to be careful about what they wear in this House to ensure that it's not considered a prop." However, Heather was quick to draw attention to the fact that several MPs were wearing solidarity "pins for various number of reasons." She even challenged Fergus along with Conservatives on whether the latter "will call this out as a prop" when she wears the Ukrainian pin.
