The ten artworks depict satirical versions of people’s views of staycations during summer, highlighting issues of economic and racial disparity in the process using a tongue-in-cheek tone.
As always, the elusiveness of Banksy is the main staple of his modus operandi, allowing him to draw and spray as he likes without anyone taking notice.
Banksy first came into prominence after his “Girl with a Balloon” artwork was found in London, 2002. Since then, the artist has catapulted into worldwide stardom, a rare feat for a graffiti artist, despite hiding his real identity to this day. Banksy has developed his skill set to include filmmaking and political activism, with his artworks bearing powerful political and social dimensions alongside their creative execution.
In 2017, Banksy opened the “Walled Off Hotel” in the Palestinian town of Bethlehem, right across the Israeli apartheid separation wall. The rooms, which are garnished with Banksy artworks depicting the Palestinian condition under Israeli occupation, directly overlook the separation wall in an attempt to remind tourists constantly of the ethnic division that “Israel” perpetrates.
