Total civilian and military deaths of WWII - The National WWII Museum

Today marks the anniversary of the end of World War II, which lasted from 1939 until 1945 and resulted in large numbers of military and civilian casualties around the world. This day is also known as "Victory in Europe" day when Germany surrendered its military forces to the Allies.
