Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis trailer promises a music-fueled biopic
In the film, Tom Hanks plays Elvis Presley's manager, and it will be released in theaters on June 24.
The first trailer for Elvis, Baz Luhrman's musical biopic of the titular rock-and-roll phenomenon starring Austin Butler (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and Tom Hanks, has been released by Warner Bros., and it is utterly insane.
Baz Luhrmann, an Australian filmmaker, is one of his generation's most artistically unique filmmakers, famed for films like Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!, and The Great Gatsby, which include opulent, musically-inclined tales and spectacular theatrical special effects.
All of those attributes are on display in this new trailer, which follows Elvis Presley's meteoric climb to success from humble beginnings in a Mississippi church choir to national television crooning and gyrating. Colonel Tom Parker, who discovers Elvis Presley and shepherds his ascension to fame and money, is played by Tom Hanks, who gives his best Foghorn Leghorn impression.
