Originally announced in 2018 and produced by Nintendo and Illumination, the animated movie will be available in theaters starting December 21, 2022, mentioned Nintendo.

Significantly, none of the cast is Italian as Mario and Luigi, and it is still undecided whether the actors will speak in Italian accents. However, in a video he posted on his Instagram account, Pratt said that he is working hard on his Mario voice.

In 1993, a live-action movie was released but some critics thought it was "unsuccessful."
