Egypt praises Russia for upholding wheat supply commitments
Egyptian Supply Minister Sherif Farouk commended Russia for fulfilling its wheat supply commitments, highlighting a significant increase in exports to Egypt, the world’s largest wheat importer.
Egyptian Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, in a statement, underscored that Russia has upheld its wheat supply to Egypt.
In a press conference, Farouk said "We pay tribute to Russia. Over the past period, its commitments were [fulfilled] at the highest point."
This comes as Egypt sought to diversify wheat imports from Russia, addressing both the public and private sectors, the minister told Sputnik.
In June, the Russian Agriculture Ministry announced that Russia, marking a 20% increase year-over-year, had exported over 3.5 million tonnes of wheat to Egypt between January and April 2024.
It is important to note that Egypt is the world's largest importer of wheat, with Moscow being its main supplier.
