Iran's automotive industry shows growth, producing over 1.13Mln cars
Iran's car industry has demonstrated significant growth, with passenger car production exceeding 1.13 million in the current calendar year, a 6% increase from the previous year.
Latest data from Iran's Automotive Industries Office has shown that Iran's car industry has demonstrated significant signs of growth, with the production of passenger cars exceeding 1.13 million in the current calendar year ending March 19, IRNA reports.
This represents a 6% increase compared to the same period last year.
Mehrdad Khosravi, the Director of the Automotive Industries Office at the Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade, told IRNA that the production of pickup trucks has likewise experienced a significant surge, witnessing a 32% increase to 166 thousand vehicles during this period.
Furthermore, the manufacturing of commercial vehicles, including vans, minibusses, buses, trucks, and trailers, has increased by about 2% compared to the previous year, reaching over 40 thousand units.
Khosravi highlighted the substantial contribution of the private sector to the automotive industry, accounting for 23% of the total production, with approximately 307 thousand vehicles.
In addition to passenger cars and commercial vehicles, the production of motorcycles has shown remarkable growth, surpassing 600 thousand units this year. This marks a notable increase of about 28% compared to the previous year's output.
Challenging sanctions
Despite facing brutal sanctions, Iran has succeeded in making significant achievements across various industries.
According to the latest annual report from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), Iranian car manufacturers contributed 1.3 percent to global car production in 2023.
Iran established trade agreements with various countries, including Venezuela, for the export of cars.
