Iconic Marilyn Monroe image coming to auction
Andy Warhol's iconic Marilyn Monroe image is being auctioned for an estimated $200 million.
An iconic picture of Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol is to be auctioned at Christie's auction house, with an estimated $200 million.
The “Shot Sage Blue Marilyn” silk-screen image is a close-up of Monroe with her hair in yellow, her eyeshadow blue, and her lips red, which is slated to be part of a week of sales in May, Christie’s said Monday.
The 1964 painting could be the most expensive 20th-century artwork to be auctioned, Christie’s said.
On another note, the sale's proceeds would go to the Thomas and Doris Ammann Foundation Zurich, which is auctioning the artwork.
The foundation aims to help children with health care and educational programs.
It's worth noting that Warhol created more than one image of Monroe; this particular painting has been exhibited in museums around the world.
