US Singer-songwriter Bobby Caldwell dies at 71 in Florida
Although the cause of death has not yet been confirmed, his wife states that he died of fluoroquinolone toxicity as a result of an antibiotic prescribed to him in 2017 that took its toll on him.
Singer-songwriter Bobby Caldwell passed away on Tuesday at the age of 71, as confirmed by his wife Mary.
Although the cause of death has not been confirmed yet, his wife states that he died of fluoroquinolone toxicity as a result of an antibiotic prescribed to him in 2017 took a toll on him.
"He was prescribed that with a runny nose and cough, and it never should have happened, but it did, and it’s irreversible if you get hit real bad like he did," she said. "It just wreaks havoc.”
In 2016, a warning was issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) concerning the use of fluoroquinolones as a remedy for "less serious" bacterial infections because it has disabling side effects.
The singer-songwriter was influenced by big names such as Nat King Cole and the Beatles, and he set out on his career at the age of 17.
Bobby passed away here at home. I held him tight in my arms as he left us. I am forever heartbroken. Thanks to all of you for your many prayers over the years. He had been "FLOXED," it took his health over the last 6 years and 2 months. Rest with God, my Love. -Mary Caldwell

One of his most known hits, "What You Won't Do for Love", was covered by rapper Tupac Shakur in 1998 under the title "Do For Love", and Boyz II Men sampled it in their 1997 hit "To the Limit " - 20 years after it was released.
Rapper Biggie Smalls also sampled Caldwell's hit song "My Flame" in the 1990s in his song "Sky's the Limit," which was later put in a biopic film about Smalls' life.
The late singer is survived by his wife and his daughters.
