US to allow sanctions on company building Nord Stream 2
According to media reports, Biden is set to announce the sanctioning of the company late Wednesday.
Citing administration officials, CNN reported that the Biden administration will announce later on Wednesday that it will authorize sanctioning the business that is developing the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, Nord Stream 2 AG, as well as the firm's chief executive officer.
According to the source, the Biden administration is rescinding its national security waiver after blocking such sanctions last year.
The Energy giant Gazprom has announced the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in September.
From the start, the US opposed the project and imposed sanctions on its participants.
Additionally, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said Tuesday that he was suspending the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project with Russia in response to Moscow's recognition of Donetsk and Luhansk's independence.
Scholz stated that he has requested a suspension to the pipeline's review by the German regulator.
