Sydney Welcomes Fully Vaccinated Travelers
Starting November 1, Sydney will no longer require quarantine for fully vaccinated international travelers.
In reaction to the coronavirus pandemic, Australia closed its borders in March 2020, allowing nearly solely citizens and permanent residents to enter the country. They are currently obliged to undergo two weeks of hotel quarantine at their own expense.
Now and as New South Wales state is set to surpass the rest of Australia with an 80% first-dose vaccination rate, the country's borders will be accessible to properly vaccinated international visitors without the requirement for quarantine, starting November 1.
Reintegrating with the society is the key factor that led to such a decision, as the New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet told Reuters, "We've got to open up".
In addition to canceling plans for home quarantine, which was supposed to replace hotel quarantine, Perrottet stated that New South Wales will welcome all international visitors.
However, Prime Minister Scott Morrison quickly overruled him, stating that the government will stick to its strategy of initially opening the border to citizens and permanent residents.
