'Shoot them down': Trump demands action against drone sightings in US
A wave of drone sightings over New Jersey and near US military sites since mid-November has raised concerns among residents and prompted lawmakers to demand clarity.
US President-elect Donald Trump has expressed alarm over reports of mysterious drones being spotted across the United States.
Taking to Truth Social, he wrote, "Mystery Drone sightings all over the Country. Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge? I don’t think so! Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down!!!"
Trump's remarks highlight growing public concern over the unexplained drone activity and call for immediate government action.
In a related context, US House Intelligence Committee member Josh Gottheimer has criticized the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security for withholding information about mysterious drones spotted over New Jersey and New York suburbs in recent weeks.
Gottheimer stated in an interview for CNN that the FBI and DHS “have a responsibility to brief the public more thoroughly…They are not providing enough information to the public, and the public is concerned."
While the White House confirmed federal authorities have yet to identify the drones, officials assured that the situation does not pose a threat to national or public safety, with investigations ongoing.
On his part, John Kirby, White House national security communications advisor, stated that many of the reported drone sightings are actually legally operated manned aircraft, with no evidence suggesting a national security or public safety threat.

However, some frustrated residents, dissatisfied with the government's explanations, have expressed a willingness to take matters into their own hands by shooting the drones down.
