US police reported that at least one person was murdered and three others were injured in a shooting in Baltimore on Saturday, including a 2-year-old toddler.

In further detail, Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison stated that authorities responded just after 6 pm Saturday evening and discovered two adult males, one adult female, and a 2-year-old shot.

Police suspect that a gunman or gunmen opened fire, but they are unsure whether the intended targets were persons in vehicles or civilians on the sidewalk.

According to Baltimore police, one of the adult males died at a nearby hospital. The adult female and the other adult man are in critical condition, while the two-year-old is stable.

The Baltimore shooting happened a few hours after three were killed and four others were injured in a mass shooting on Saturday in Los Angeles' Benedict Canyon neighborhood.

This comes less than a week after a gunman killed three people in what police described as a random attack in the western US state of Washington and after at least 10 people were killed and several others were injured in a mass shooting in a predominantly Asian city in southern California.

A group of US senators reintroduced on Monday a federal Assault Weapons Ban and legislation that would raise the minimum purchase age for assault weapons to 21.

The US legislation allows keeping weapons without registration or license in 43 states, which causes frequent fatal shooting incidents.

There have already been about 40 mass shootings in the US since the beginning of the year, according to Gun Violence Archive analysts.
