Watch a Penguin Walk to the Fish Store to Get Its Treat
This is what happens when a bird from the Antarctic moves to live in a hot and humid town in Japan.
-
Lala, the pet penguin
This is Lala, a king penguin who was found trapped in a fishing net with an injured beak and wing.
A fisherman found Lala and kept him on his boat, bringing him back to Japan to the Nishimoto family, who took care of his injuries.
Lala soon became a member of the family and never left them, and they built him a small refrigerated room under their house.
Real TV made a short video (watch below) about the penguin in the 1990s, showing Lala waddling from his home to the fish store with his penguin-shaped backpack. The store owner gives him a mackerel and packs another fish in his backpack. Lala then heads back home, a neighbor cools him off with the garden hose, and then he spends time with his family.
Lala sadly passed away in 1998.
