Austrian police confirmed on Tuesday that at least 10 people, including the suspect, were killed in a Graz school shooting, marking one of the deadliest acts of school violence in the country’s recent history.

“We currently have several fatalities in the #graz1006 operation,” police said on X.

The incident occurred in Dreierschuetzengasse, a street in Graz where a secondary school is located. Police said an operation was ongoing and declined to provide further immediate comment. Emergency services began evacuating the building shortly after reports of gunfire emerged.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the suspect was found dead

Kronen Zeitung also reported that a suspect had been found dead in a bathroom on the school premises, though this has not been officially confirmed. It remains unclear whether the shooter is among the deceased.

National broadcaster ORF reported that the wounded included both students and teachers, with some suffering serious injuries. The full extent of the casualties remains under investigation, but students and teachers injured in Graz are receiving medical attention at local hospitals.

This mass shooting incident has shocked the nation, where gun violence is relatively rare. Officials have not yet released a motive or any background on the suspected shooter.

Law enforcement has secured the area, and forensic teams are examining the scene. Investigations are ongoing, with updates expected as authorities piece together details of what led to this deadly attack.
