Berlin International Airport remains in emergency operation mode a week after a cyberattack disrupted key systems used for passenger check-in and boarding, Germany's DPA news agency reported Saturday, citing an airport spokesperson.
The representative said that recovery efforts are ongoing and will continue "step by step" as technicians attempt to restore normal services. "Twenty experts from the registration system provider are working ‘around the clock' to fix the glitch," he noted, describing the situation as a gradual process of exiting "crisis mode." The airport has not yet given a firm date for when full operations will resume.

The disruption began on September 19, when a cyberattack targeted Collins Aerospace, the US company responsible for supplying the digital check-in and boarding systems used at several European airports. The breach caused widespread outages, forcing airports, including Berlin's, to fall back on manual processing of passengers, resulting in long delays and operational slowdowns.
While other affected hubs have restored partial functionality, Berlin's main airport remains one of the hardest hit, exposing the vulnerability of Europe's aviation infrastructure to cyber threats that can paralyze travel across the continent.
