California teen found inside marine corps barracks after going missing
Federal authorities launch an investigation into the incident and briefly detained a marine from the combat logistics battalion for questioning.
A 14-year-old girl who had been reported missing by her grandmother in early June was discovered two weeks later in an unexpected location – inside the barracks at a Marine Corps base in California.
Federal law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the incident and briefly took a marine from the combat logistics battalion into custody for questioning.
Upon entering the Marine Corps base, all visitors undergo strict scrutiny at the entrance, where Marines allegedly ensure that proper authorization is presented before granting access. However, marines are permitted to bring "guests" onto the base and into the barracks until a specific hour, which varies depending on the building.
Typically, single junior marines are assigned to the barracks, where they often share a room with at least one other marine. These rooms are equipped with two single beds, a small refrigerator, an eating area, a secretary desk, a closet, and wall lockers.
In addition to the individual living spaces, the barracks also feature common areas where marines can unwind and socialize. These areas may include amenities such as pool tables and TVs.
The marine has since been released to his command as the investigation continues.
The teenager was found by military police during the day on June 28th, following her grandmother's report of her disappearance on June 13th.
Specific details regarding the missing teenager's time at the barracks and how she came into contact with the marine have not been disclosed.
The case has been handed over to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), and no arrests or charges have been made thus far.
