A 5.3-magnitude earthquake has rocked Afghanistan killing and injuring dozens.
A 5.3-magnitude earthquake shook Afghanistan today, Monday, killing at least 12 people, according to an official.
Roofs of residential buildings collapsed in Qadis District in the western province of Badghis, which led to the death of the residents, district governor Mohammad Saleh Purdel told AFP.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake originally recorded a magnitude of 5.6.
"Several people were also injured in today's earthquake," Purdel said.
The quake was at a depth of 30 km (18.64 miles), according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
Afghanistan is regularly hit by earthquakes, particularly in the Hindu Kush mountain range, which is located near the junction of the tectonic plates of Eurasia and India.
