Explosions heard, buildings shaking on NY Roosevelt Island
Road closures, mass transit disruptions, and emergency personnel are expected near Roosevelt Island.
According to New York's official emergency warning system NYCEM, US officials are reacting to numerous explosions heard on Roosevelt Island, which is located between Manhattan and Queens in New York City.
NYCEM posted an alert on X that stated to “expect road closures, mass transit disruptions & emergency personnel near Roosevelt Island. Use alternate routes."
At around 6 am EST, firemen were responding to phone calls from homeowners reporting hearing explosions and feeling their buildings shake.
The New York Police Department told The Independent that the event was suspected to have been triggered by a transformer, but no confirmation has been made as of yet.
According to ABC's local network in New York, no injuries were recorded, but two buildings on the island allegedly lost power.
