Haiti capital gang clashes kill 89 people: Reports
Deadly gang clashes in Haiti leave dozens of locals dead and hundreds injured.
Some 89 people have been killed and hundreds were injured in light of clashes that took place between rival armed gangs in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, media reported.
16 people have gone missing and are yet to be found, Agence France-Presse reported.
The clashes erupted on Friday when members of the G-9 gang attacked rival gang G-Pep. The clashes continued in a number of districts within the capital city.
The clashes left behind massive casualties, with gang members making up the majority of those injured or killed.
Similar clashes erupted in the north of Port-au-Prince in April between the 400 Mawozo and Chen Mechan gangs, leaving behind more than 200 people dead, hundreds injured, and more than 30,000 local residents displaced.
The Caribbean country is undergoing a severe security crisis; official figures show that more than 200 people were kidnapped for ransom or murdered in May, while there have been more than 500 cases of such since the start of the year.
The country has been experiencing instability since the July 2021 assassination of then-President Jovenel Moise, which plummeted the country into chaos and a hectic political period.
