Indiana mass shooting kills 3, injures 7
This marks the second (known) mass shooting during the 4th of July celebrations in the US.
On early Tuesday morning, 3 people were killed and 7 people were injured in a mass shooting in what may have been a 4th of July block party in Gary, Indiana, in the US, according to officials.
Police in the district were called around quarter to 1 past midnight to Missouri Street, reporting "several people with gunshot wound." The police arrived at the scene to find 3 dead and the rest injured due to gunshot wounds.
The victims were identified as 26-year-old Marquise Hall from Lafayette, Indiana; 25-year-old Laurence Mangum from Merrillville, Indiana; and 20-year-old Ashanti Brown from Olympia Fields, Illinois.
Those injured were transferred to the nearest hospitals by ambulance and personal cars, according to police.
"Due to the enormity of the scene, mutual aid was requested from surrounding police agencies," the police stated.
Just yesterday, an Illinois mass shooting claimed the lives of 6 and injured around 20 during 4th of July celebrations.
In May, a CDC report revealed that the firearm homicide rate in the United States had reached its highest level since 1994 during the first year of the Covid pandemic, with significant racial and class disparities.
