The fire started around 1 am on early Friday, in a club located 128 kilometers south of Bangkok, according to Wuttipong Somjai, a police colonel speaking to Reuters, revealing that 41 have been injured. All of the identified victims are Thai nationals.
Videos circulating social media showed people scrambling briskly to escape the conflagration - some of the people were even seen running ablaze. Images within the same context depicted damages that the nightclub sustained.
In 2009, a similar incident at a club near Bangkok killed 66 people and hundreds injured. While the causes behind the fire were never identified by local authorities, faulty wiring and fireworks accidents were just a couple of the theories postulated attributed to the cause.
