One dead, eight injured in a Florida shooting
In a new shooting attack, considered by the police as an isolated incident, at least one was killed, with eight others injured.
One person is dead and eight were wounded in an overnight shooting in Tallahassee, Florida, on Saturday.
Several people started shooting just before midnight at Half-Time Liquors and Los Compadres on West Pensacola Street as police officers were "conducting crowd control at multiple locations," the Tallahassee Police Department said. The street is located near Florida State University and Florida A&M University.
The officers who heard gunshots found a man outside the liquor store who died from his wounds at the scene, Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said in a news conference Sunday morning.
According to a news release, the police saw an armed man shooting at a large crowd before running toward a McDonald's restaurant. Two of the officers followed him and "gave verbal commands for him to drop his weapon," police said.
To put an end to threats and avoid more injuries, the man was then shot by police, the release added.
The man was taken into custody and had non-life-threatening injuries, the Tallahassee police said, adding that "eight other individuals sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious," and the identities and ages of the victims have not been released.
Three suspects are in custody, and further arrests were not ruled out, while the shooting, considered an isolated incident by the chief, remains under investigation.
A few days ago, Chicago police confirmed five people were shot and three of them have died after a caravan of vehicles involving about 100 cars entered the intersection of the Brighton Park neighborhood at about 4 am on Sunday.
