A "shooting incident" was reported at the Chicago White Sox's Guaranteed Rate Field on Friday night during a game between the Chicago White Sox and the Oakland Athletics.

One woman was wounded in the leg by a gunshot, while another was grazed in the abdomen. The 42-year-old victim is in fair condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center, and the 26-year-old opted not to receive medical attention.

It remains uncertain whether the shots originated from inside or outside the ballpark. The White Sox expressed their concerns for the victims, and prompt police response ensured safety without an ongoing threat.

The game drew an attendance of 21,906, and a postgame concert was canceled due to technical issues.

This comes shortly after Pittsburgh witnessed an “extremely active” shooting situation last Wednesday as shots are “continuing to be fired” after the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office served an eviction to a resident in the Garfield neighborhood and the suspect opened fire on police, according to officials.

As the #US undergoes a mass shooting crisis and while lawmakers call for holding the industry accountable for crimes committed using their products, gunmakers have seen a tremendous hike in earnings from their sales of AR-15-style rifles, according to data.#GunViolence pic.twitter.com/DWVhXalW0J

It is worth noting that the United States is on track to either match or exceed the previous year's record for the highest number of mass shootings in a single year, which was 690 in 2021, as per data from the Gun Violence Archive (GVA).

The alarming rise in gun violence in the #US continues to shatter records, with an average of one mass shooting per day in the first half of 2023, and nearly a dozen mass shootings over the 4th of July weekend alone. pic.twitter.com/HmLzZngnQ5

Recent surveys indicate that a majority of voters support implementing further measures for gun control in order to mitigate gun violence. Additionally, these polls reveal that gun violence has become the primary health concern among the general public in the US.
