Several people injured in blast at French military explosives producer
Southwest France shakes after an explosion blasted at the Eurenco military explosive maker factory.
A blast on Wednesday at the military explosives maker Eurenco's factory in Bergerac, southwest France, injured several individuals, according to local officials.
According to the Dordogne region prefecture, eight persons were hurt, one of whom was critically injured.
Following the incident, which occurred at 1400 CET, a fire broke out, but authorities reported the situation was under control by 1600 CET. According to the prefecture, the explosion had little effect outside of the site's boundary.
The company manufactures military explosives, propellants, and fuels. It also manufactures civil explosives.
Bergerac mayor Jonathan Priolead stated that investigators do not yet know what caused the explosion, although it occurred in a sector dealing with nitrocellulose.
According to the Dordogne prefecture, emergency services are still on the scene.
