Two children murdered in the Bronx, mother detained
A 24-year-old mother was detained as a suspect after her two children were found stabbed to death in her apartment.
Reports of a 24-year-old woman acting out of the ordinary led to the discovery of her two children stabbed to death.
The incident took place in the Bronx at an apartment on Echo Place on Saturday night.
According to one of the neighbors, the kids were rushed to the hospital covered in blood after failed attempts by police officers and one of their relatives to resuscitate them.
"We don't know what's going on. I just heard them yelling and screaming. He [family member] kept saying, screaming, 'Help me, help me, help me.' That's when he run the boys out. They were naked and blood all over them," the neighbor told the CBS2 reporter.
"He said, 'She killed them, she killed them," she added.
The NYPD's timeline of the event goes as follows:
At around 7:20 pm, police officers responded to reports of a female behaving irrationally and attempting to burn items in the kitchen area.
Upon arrival, the officers found a 24-year-old woman in the apartment with unusual behavior and took her into custody, while a family friend on site confirmed to the officers that her children were with their father at the time.
The woman was then transported to a hospital at around 7:50 pm.
Another emergency call was received at around 7:55 pm from the same location this time stating that two children were found unresponsive.
Police officers found in the apartment an 11-month-old boy and a 3-year-old boy with several stab wounds to the neck and torso and rushed them to the hospital where they were later pronounced dead.
The mother was detained as a suspect in the crime as the investigation is ongoing.
