Woman killed, 8 injured in Phoenix plaza shooting
A shooting at a strip mall in Phoenix leads to the death of a woman and the injury of 8.
According to Phoenix police, one person was killed and eight people were injured in a nighttime shooting inside a strip mall at 10th Avenue and Hatcher.
When a brawl broke out between different groups outside the strip mall shortly after 1 am on June 4, police said about 100 individuals had gathered for some type of party.
The situation quickly escalated into a series of gunfires shot inside the building, in the parking lot, and on the street. Police stated that "many rounds were shot into this crowd of people as they fled the area."
At the hospital, one woman died from her injuries, while two other ladies are in critical condition.
Five men and a teen were also shot, but their conditions were not as serious. According to officials, the victims' ages vary from 18 to 24.
The gunman has not been apprehended, and no suspect description has been released.
The US has witnessed a series of unprecedented mass shootings that occurred in a short period, the latest being in Iowa and Wisconsin after Tulsa, where four were murdered in the hospital shooting.
Just today, one person was killed and five people were injured in a shooting at a party in Chesterfield County, Virginia, according to NBC12, quoting local police.
A few days earlier, US public figures and gun-control advocates urged the US government to take measures that would ensure mass shootings could not happen again. The spike in mass shootings in the US peaked over Memorial Day weekend.
Following the shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Tex., which claimed the lives of 19 children and two teachers last week, several members of society, public figures, and advocates vocalized their growing concern regarding the incidents.
