An Israeli airstrike targeting the Fatima Bint Asad School, which was sheltering displaced families in Jabalia al-Balad, in northern Gaza, killed at least 10 people, including several women and children, and injured dozens, in the early hours of Monday, Gaza's civil defence agency said.
"At least 10 (dead), including several women and children, as well as dozens of wounded, were transported following an Israeli airstrike on the Fatima Bint Asad school, which is home to more than 2,000 displaced people in the city of Jabalia," Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmud Bassal told AFP.
Later, our correspondent in Gaza reported that the number of people killed in the massacre has risen to 16.
Hamas' 'good faith' met with Israeli brutality
The massacre came just hours after US President Donald Trump hailed Hamas' announcement of its intention to release the American-Israeli captive in Gaza, Edan Alexander, as a "good faith gesture," expressing hope for an end to the "brutal conflict" in Gaza.
Al Mayadeen’s correspondent reported that the Israeli occupation bombed the school multiple times, killing and injuring several among the displaced individuals sheltering there.

In addition, one Palestinian was killed and others were wounded, including children, when an Israeli airstrike targeted a gathering of civilians in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, west of Gaza City.
Our correspondent also reported that Israeli warplanes bombed a house in the al-Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.
Additionally, the Israeli occupation military demolished residential homes in the eastern part of the al-Tuffah neighborhood, east of Gaza City.
Israeli war machine killing nonstop
According to the latest figures of the Health Ministry in Gaza, the Israeli war on the Palestinian enclave has killed more than 52,000 and injured more than 119,000 since October 7, 2023, including more than 2,720 people killed and 7,000 injured since March 18, after "Israel" reneged on a ceasefire with the Palestinian Resistance.
But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that the release of Alexander would not lead to a ceasefire in Gaza or the release of Palestinian prisoners.
Negotiations for a possible deal to secure the release of all captives would continue "under fire, during preparations for an intensification of the fighting," Netanyahu said in a statement released by his office.
