'Israel' bracing for Iranian response to IRGC assassination: Official
An Israeli official says the Israeli occupation forces are bracing for an act of retaliation from Iran in response to the killing of an IRGC top officer in Syria.
The Israeli occupation forces are preparing for an Iranian response to the killing of an officer in the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) in Syria, an Israeli official said on Monday.
According to the Israeli official, Israeli intel prompted the occupation forces to be on alert and expect a response from Iran after it was found that the Israeli occupation was behind the assassination of a top IRGC official in Syria.
"The Israeli army is preparing for an Iranian response that might entail missile strikes from Syria and Lebanon," the Israeli official said.
Senior Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Seyyed Razi Mousavi was martyred in an Israeli airstrike on Syria's Damascus on Monday.
Seyyed Razi was one of the oldest IRGC commanders in Syria and he was close to the commander of the IRGC's elite Quds Force, martyr Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, prior to his martyrdom.
The Iranian commander was martyred after the Israeli occupation launched three missiles at his position in the suburbs of the Syrian capital of Damascus, as reported by an Al Mayadeen correspondent.
He exerted exemplary efforts in the fight against ISIS in Syria during his lengthy participation in combatting terrorism throughout the West Asia region.
The Islamic Revolution's Guard commenting on the assassination of the martyr said, "There is no doubt that the Israeli occupation entity will pay the price for this crime."
This is not the first time the Israeli occupation has violated Syria's sovereignty by killing foreign commanders whose presence was sanctioned by the state on its soil.
The Israeli occupation forces earlier in December launched an air strike that martyred Mohammad Ali Ataei Shoorcheh and Panah Taghizadeh, both of whom are members of the IRGC serving as military advisors in Syria.
The IRGC Public Relations Department announced their martyrdom, saying, "In light of the brutal aggression launched by the Israeli occupation against Gaza with open support from the United States and some European governments and the martyrdom of thousands of Palestinians, especially women and children, two IRGC members were martyred: Mohammad Ali Ataei Shoorcheh and Panah Taghizadeh."
The martyrdom of the two IRGC members in Syria comes in light of the ongoing confrontation that the Axis of Resistance has undertaken in the face of Israeli occupation's aggression against the Gaza Strip. During this confrontation, tens of freedom fighters, from Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, and Iraq, have ascended as martyrs on the path to al-Quds.
