The Israeli military has brought bulldozers and engineering equipment near Wadi Koayiah in western Daraa countryside, amid reports about plans to dig trenches and erect a security fence deep within the valley to prevent farmers from accessing their lands, local sources in Syria told Al Mayadeen.
This move coincides with information reported by The Times of Israel about an Israeli project to extend a security fence starting from southern Golan and running along the Jordanian border.
Meanwhile, a correspondent for the local Al-Watan newspaper in Quneitra reported that the sounds heard in the province were the result of Israeli forces detonating a minefield near the disengagement line with the occupied Syrian Golan.
Ongoing security warnings
Separately, a diplomatic source in Damascus told Syrian media that the security warning issued to embassies and UN missions in the Syrian capital remains in effect.
The source clarified that the threat primarily targeted specific embassies, including the German embassy, as well as UN offices.
According to the source, UN offices have instructed their staff not to work from their offices and have canceled several planned activities and meetings scheduled after Eid al-Fitr.
The US embassy in Syria has alerted its citizens about an "increased possibility" of attacks during the upcoming holiday marking the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
A statement posted on the embassy website late on Friday said, "The US Department of State cautions US citizens of the increased possibility of attacks during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, which could target embassies, international organizations, and Syrian public institutions in Damascus."
It added, "Methods of attack could include... individual attackers, armed gunmen, or the use of explosive devices."
Washington warned its citizens against traveling to Syria "due to the significant risks of terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, hostage-taking, armed conflict, and unjust detention," as stated in the advisory.
Days ago, local sources told Al Mayadeen that seven people were killed and others wounded in an Israeli airstrike targeting the town of Koayiah in western Daraa.
Israeli warplanes had carried out heavy airstrikes on the port of Latakia, along Syria’s northwestern coast. Local sources told Al Mayadeen that the Israeli attack targeted the al-Bayda port and Brigade 110 in Latakia.
