It added that the sirens heard across "Israel" earlier served as a preemptive warning in anticipation of a possible Iranian response.
It is worth mentioning that the attack came two days before a new round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated the goal behind the operation is “to strike Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, Iran’s ballistic missile factories, and Iran’s military capabilities.”
In a video address, Netanyahu emphasized that the operation will persist as long as needed and until its mission is completed.
However, he warned that Iran “has significant capabilities to harm us," alleging that Tehran has enriched enough uranium for nine nuclear bombs.
He further alleged that Iran has built “a massive store” of ballistic missiles, which can "reach Israel from Iran within minutes. Each one carries a ton of explosives.”
"Israel" is at a “decisive point” in its history, the prime minister underscored.

On his part, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed "Israel" took “unilateral action against Iran,” warning that Tehran should not target the US in response to the Israeli attack.
“Our top priority is protecting American forces in the region. Israel advised us that they believe this action was necessary for [their] self-defense,” Rubio stated.
“President Trump and the Administration have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces and remain in close contact with our regional partners,” he added.
“Let me be clear: Iran should not target US interests or personnel."

In a further sign of impending escalation, "Israel" has completely shut down its airspace to both inbound and outbound flights at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport.
