Israeli occupation forces issued on Thursday demolition orders for 106 homes and buildings in the Tulkarm and Nur Shams refugee camps, giving residents only 24 hours to evacuate and remove their belongings, the Middle East Monitor reported.
The Israeli occupation military attached maps to the notices, marking the targeted properties in red and instructing residents to clear the premises within one day.
Tulkarm Governor Abdullah Kamil confirmed that the occupation intends to demolish 58 buildings in Tulkarm camp and 48 homes in Nur Shams camp.
Calls for intervention
He renewed his appeal to the international community, as well as to human rights and humanitarian organizations, to intervene and stop what he described as an “unprecedented crime” against the residents of Tulkarm, the Nur Shams camps, and the broader Tulkarm area.
Kamil called on international bodies to pressure "Israel" to halt its ongoing demolition campaign, which has resulted in forced displacement, extensive destruction, and damage to both public and private property.
He also condemned the Israeli blockade imposed on Palestinian refugee camps.
According to the United Nations, some 40,000 residents have been displaced since January 21, when the Israeli occupation military launched an operation reportedly targeting Palestinian Resistance groups in the north of the occupied West Bank.
The territory, occupied by "Israel" since 1967, is home to about three million Palestinians, as well as nearly 500,000 Israelis living in settlements that are illegal under international law.
Prolonged Israeli military presence
The Israeli operation started two days after a truce agreement came into effect in the Gaza Strip between the Israeli military and the Palestinian Resistance.
Dubbed "Iron Wall", the Israeli operation is primarily targeting three refugee camps -- Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur Shams -- and Security Minister Israel Katz said in February it would last several months.
"I have instructed (the soldiers) to prepare for a prolonged stay in the evacuated camps for the coming year, and not to allow the return of their residents or the resurgence of terrorism," he said in a statement.
Largest West Bank displacement since 1967
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) highlighted that the Israeli operation has triggered the largest wave of displacement in the occupied West Bank since the 1967 Six-Day War.
