Israeli media outlets, including Channel 14 and Israel Hayom, confirmed that Ori Gordin, the commander of the Israeli occupation army’s Northern Command, informed Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir of his decision to step down from his post in July.
Gordin has held the position since September 2022. His name was previously mentioned as a potential candidate to head the Military Intelligence Directorate (Aman). However, as the position does not appear to be opening anytime soon, Gordin may opt for retirement.
The Northern Command plays a crucial role in overseeing “Israel’s” military operations along the northern border, a region of strategic importance. Gordin's decision follows multiple resignations and firings by top Israeli officers, including former Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi.
Channel 14 correspondent Hillel Biton Rosen named three potential candidates to succeed Gordin: Home Front Command chief Rafi Milo, Head of the Manpower Directorate Dado Bar Kalifa, and Northern Corps commander Dan Goldfus.
Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir will oversee the appointment process as the Israeli occupation army prepares for the leadership transition within its Northern Command.
